As a Chapter, What Will be Expected/Required?
Grants To You chapters would be expected to use their very best efforts to establish themselves within their community, to be known as a valuable resource to non-profit agencies and as a provider of valuable service and support to seniors and students who are seeking a more meaningful life.
Chapters should be seen as an important contributor's to the well being of the community. to be admired and indeed praised for their efforts on behalf of all citizens.
What Will Be Expected/Required?
- Establish an Advisory Council or Board of Directors made up of well-informed and well-placed citizens who can successfully guide the chapter.
- Build community relationships including colleges, high schools, United Way, RSVP, senior organizations, grant officers and local government officials. Utilize these connections to build your Board/Advisory Council and to obtain teachers, facilities, students and volunteers.
- Utilize the Operating a Chapter guidelines to administer you chapter to assure a successful, quality-based organization.
- Assure that your agencies submit their (2) annual one-page reports (on-line). Volunteer Performance Report and Volunteer Benefits Report and follow up/review each volunteer's monthly report (on-line) and the Volunteer Status Call Reports prepared by non-student volunteers (See Operating A Chapter for report formats and on-line access).
- Provide no less than nine hours of quarterly training classes for 18-20 student-volunteers (each class) taught by an experienced grant writer.
- Assure that your volunteers are performing to meet or exceed expectations and work diligently to resolve any unfavorable performance issues.
- Work hard to retain your volunteers by offering additional training, social interaction and recognition programs (See Operating A Chapter).
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility. Be capable of obtaining funding so that classes could be offered within 180 days of your coming on board as a chapter. Note: A single class should cost out of pocket no more than $250 including payment to the teacher, the facility and the registration with a local college.
- Assure appropriate training quality and quantity, making full use of GTU training recommendations (see Operating A Chapter). Utilize feedback from students to continually improve your program.
Finally, administer your chapter in conformance with the principles of a non-profit agency, working to support the community through its non-profits at not cost to either the volunteers or the agencies for whom they volunteer.
